About
I would say that I’m a publishing person. I have done publishing since high school and later worked at various publishers. My first publishing career was with Gramedia, in which I established PT Elex Media Komputindo. Here I was also involved (actually started) various publications within the group such as Elex, Mikrodata, and InfoKomputer.
I left Gramedia in 1987 and started my own magazine which is based on the computer club Pangkalan Pisi. It was not successful and to make this story short, I was then in 1990 joined Sampoerna Executive Resource Center (SERC) as Publishing Manager and later PT Pantja Simpati (printer). Here I learned about printing, general management, and export business.
Joining Periplus Editions in 1991 is the start of my career in regional and later multinational companies. I was then appointed as book merchandiser and local book publisher for Indonesia. The company was more well-known as Java Books at the time.
My multinational career started with Simon & Schuster (which at that time carried the Prentice Hall brand and logo). Here I worked as Publishing Manager for the Indonesian publishing arm PT Prenhallindo (1995-1999).
Later after moved to Singapore with the whole family I worked for McGraw-Hill (Asia) in Singapore as Acquisition Editor and in 2004-2007 as Publishing Manager for Elsevier. Here I learned a lot about journal publishing both print and electronics.
My interest in electronic publishing stems from my interest in computer and internet itself. I published Neotek magazine (http://www.neotek.co.id or http://www.newneotek.com) which was first aimed for computer newbies and then for hacker wannabes.
The magazine has slowly lost its popularity and is now transforming into something else. Whatever it would be. You might want to visit the English website of this magazine (strangely with an entirely different name): http://discoveryindonesia.com
I’m now trying to do my best in electronic publishing. DiscoveryIndonesia.com is my second attemp after www.neotek.co.id (now defunct but will soon be the archival site for the late Neotek magazine), but the third one which related to scholarly publishing is certainly more interesting and hopefully will be more lucrative. It’s now too early to disclose this initiative.
I also have a side career, that is selling, training and providing support for accounting software. It was started in 1987 with DacEasy Accounting ver. 3.0 (DOS version 12+0 digits) and now has been established as a separate entity, PT eSolusi Pirantikita Esa (http://www.esolusi.co.id and http://www.silktech.com.sg/id) representing the following software in Indonesia: DacEasy Accounting (Windows version 12+2 digits), e-Solution Financial, and the locally bred NeoAccounting.

I always think of visiting you in Singapore and discuss everything while drinking beer. But as you may have already known it will cost me a lot of money and I can’t afford it. So I’m glad that I found this blog of yours. I’m sure that in the future I’ll come here quite often and do the discussion (of course minus a beer). Horas!

Thanks for visiting my blog pak Mula. I’m regularly back to Indonesia and I’m sure we can spare time for some beer.
